# Free video intro templates and hooks

> Openers that earn the next three seconds: kinetic text hooks, countdowns, title cards, logo reveals and end screens for any channel.

- Page: https://cutluma.com/templates/category/hooks-intros
- 26 templates; each opens in the editor with a free account and exports as MP4.

The first two seconds decide whether a video is watched, and the last five decide whether the next one is. This category covers both ends: kinetic text hooks for short-form, “wait for the end” and “read this first” openers, a 3-2-1 countdown, film-style title cards, Swiss and Bauhaus poster titles, a breaking-news bar, a glitch logo reveal for YouTube intros and end screens with space for subscribe cards. Formats include 9:16 for Shorts and Reels and 16:9 for YouTube.

Intros are the templates people most often reuse, so these are built to be rebranded once and kept. Change the name and tagline, set your two colours, trim the animation to the length you want and save the project. Then drop the intro at the head of every edit and the end screen at the tail. For short-form, pair a hook template with your clip underneath: the text carries the promise while the footage shows the proof.

## Templates

- [Kinetic hook](https://cutluma.com/templates/stack-hook) — 9:16, 7.5 s, Hooks & intros: Huge condensed words slam in one per beat — STOP / SCROLLING. / THIS IS / FOR YOU — stacking into lime and ink blocks, then the stack scrolls away to your topic card. Rewrite both halves for your video.
- [Wait for the end](https://cutluma.com/templates/wait-end) — 9:16, 10 s, Hooks & intros: The “wait for the end 👀” overlay: a TikTok-style caption, a ring that ticks round one segment per second and a countdown that lands on NOW. Drop your clip underneath — the middle stays clear.
- [Film title card](https://cutluma.com/templates/film-title) — 16:9, 10 s, Hooks & intros: An indie-film opening: letterbox bars slide in, tiny spaced serif credits fade in and out, then the title pulls into focus over grain with a billing block underneath. Put your footage under the bars.
- [Decode intro](https://cutluma.com/templates/decode-intro) — 16:9, 8 s, Hooks & intros: An amber CRT terminal boots up, types its log, decodes ACCESS GRANTED and then types your channel name with a blinking cursor. Perfect for tech, gaming and “behind the code” channels.
- [Ticker wall](https://cutluma.com/templates/ticker-wall) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: Seven cobalt and off-white tickers run in alternating directions and fill the frame, with your brand name in serif italic on the ink row in the middle while the whole wall slowly tilts. A drop or brand intro.
- [Swiss poster](https://cutluma.com/templates/swiss-poster) — 4:5, 8 s, Hooks & intros: International-style poster for an event or announcement: a giant 26 over a red circle, a slowly turning hairline, a rotated side label and tidy grid columns for when, where and tickets.
- [Bauhaus title](https://cutluma.com/templates/bauhaus-title) — 1:1, 7 s, Hooks & intros: Bauhaus tiles keep turning behind a cream title card with a hard shadow; the title slides up line by line and a spinning “new episode” stamp lands on the corner. Great for podcasts and series.
- [3-2-1 countdown](https://cutluma.com/templates/countdown-321) — 9:16, 5 s, Hooks & intros: Giant 3, 2, 1 slam in with an arc sweeping round each one while the colour irises from cobalt to tomato to lime — then GO! Use it before a challenge, a reveal or a drop.
- [Chapter title](https://cutluma.com/templates/chapter-card) — 16:9, 7 s, Hooks & intros: Editorial chapter break: a huge cherry “02”, the chapter name sliding up in serif, hairline rules, mono labels and a chapter bar that fills as you watch. Duplicate it for every part of your video.
- [Breaking news](https://cutluma.com/templates/breaking-news) — 16:9, 9 s, Hooks & intros: A clean, flat news lower third: cherry BREAKING tag, the headline sliding up out of its bar, a live bug and a scrolling ticker. Swap the headlines for your own announcement or joke.
- [Glitch logo reveal](https://cutluma.com/templates/glitch-reveal) — 16:9, 7 s, Hooks & intros: Your brand name tears in with an RGB-split glitch on black CRT scanlines, settles clean, and the tagline decodes underneath. A five-second sting for intros and ads.
- [Name in letters](https://cutluma.com/templates/name-letters) — 16:9, 6 s, Hooks & intros: A channel intro where your footage plays inside your name in heavy type, then a lime underline draws and the schedule types in. Drop a clip onto the name.
- [Stuck at 99%](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-hook-99) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: A loader that counts to 99 % and stays there: a lime bar wipes across a dark band over your clip, a cursor blinks at the gap and typed asides go from “still loading…” to “ok it’s stuck. keep watching.” Rewrite the asides for your payoff.
- [Nobody: / me:](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-nobody-me) — 9:16, 7 s, Hooks & intros: The “nobody: / absolutely no one: / me:” meme as a white card with a hard shadow on butter: the lines slide up, a tomato “me:” slams in and a hand-drawn arrow points at your clip, with a handwritten aside at the bottom. Change the aside and drop your “me” footage.
- [Three words](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-three-words) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: THIS. / CHANGES. / EVERYTHING in condensed black caps that fill the width, each line sliding up from behind its baseline — and the last word is cut out, so your clip plays inside the letters. Swap the three words and the serif aside.
- [Stop scrolling](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-stop-scroll) — 9:16, 7 s, Hooks & intros: A type specimen over your clip: seven rows of outlined STOP SCROLLING ticker past in alternating directions and the middle row slams in solid tomato on a tilted lime bar, with a waving hand and a “(yes, you.)” scribble. Only the words need changing.
- [3 signs you…](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-3-signs) — 9:16, 9 s, Hooks & intros: The listicle teaser: a huge “3 SIGNS” over an italic serif line, then three cards — the first sign revealed with a tick, the other two scrambled and locked until the video. Edit the headline and the first sign; the locked rows stay secret.
- [Read the caption](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-read-caption) — 9:16, 7 s, Hooks & intros: Sticker overlay for a clip whose story lives in the caption: a spinning PART 1 burst, a wobbling “sound on” pill, a marker-pen “read the caption” on lime and a bouncing finger with a drawn arrow pointing down. Drop your clip and change the part number.
- [Clapperboard](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-clapper) — 16:9, 9 s, Hooks & intros: A film slate fills the frame with chalk-written production, scene, take and director fields, the striped stick claps shut with a white flash, then the whole board drops away to ACTION! and your take with a REC bug. Fill in your own slate.
- [Documentary card](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-doc-card) — 9:16, 9 s, Hooks & intros: A documentary place-and-time card over your footage: letterbox bars slide in, viewfinder corners draw themselves, then KYOTO, JAPAN in spaced serif, a typed time and day count, coordinates and an italic line. Change the place, the time and the scene label.
- [Day 1 of 75](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-day-one) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: The challenge counter on tomato: DAY in white, a giant ink 01 that slams in beside an outlined /75, today’s checklist with two ticks already, and a 10-segment progress bar with a blinking cursor at 1 %. Change the day, the total and the list every post.
- [POV: your boss](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-pov-boss) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: A fat “POV:” over “your boss at 4:58pm on a friday”, then a Slack-style ping types itself out with reactions, “me:” gets a typing bubble and *closes laptop* slams in on lime. Drop your reaction clip and a face on the avatar.
- [Declassified](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-classified) — 4:5, 9 s, Hooks & intros: A manila folder with a hard shadow: the file number and headline type themselves, black redaction bars slide off two lines to declassify them while the third stays blacked out “(in the video)”, and a red TOP SECRET stamp slams on. A paper-clipped photo frame takes your face.
- [Before you buy](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-before-buy) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: A warning on cherry red over your product clip: hazard stripes top and bottom, a pulsing mustard triangle, BEFORE YOU BUY slamming in, an italic “watch this first.” and a flickering border. Change the pill for what your review covers.
- [This Friday](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-this-friday) — 1:1, 9 s, Hooks & intros: A trailer tease on a violet spotlight: “coming” pulls into focus in a hairline serif, THIS FRIDAY glows in wide caps over a breathing orb and a flare line, then the time and a reminder chip with a swinging bell. Change the day and the handle.
- [Unpopular opinion](https://cutluma.com/templates/hk-unpopular) — 9:16, 8 s, Hooks & intros: A hot take on cream: “unpopular opinion:” in heavy italic serif, the take on a tilted white card with a hard shadow, a thermometer whose mercury climbs to spicy, a marker-pen “don’t @ me” and a comments pill. Rewrite the take and keep the heat.

## Tips

- **Write the hook as a promise or a question** — Hooks work when they tell the viewer what they will get or ask something they want answered. “3 mistakes that cost me a client” beats “Welcome back to the channel” every time.
- **Trim the intro shorter than you think** — A channel intro should run two to four seconds. Drag the end of the template in on the timeline; the animation still plays and the viewer gets to the content sooner.
- **Match the intro to the thumbnail** — Use the same colours and typeface in the intro template as in your thumbnails. The viewer who clicked sees continuity, which reads as quality.

## FAQ

**Are the intro templates free?**

Yes. Edit and export any intro or hook template with a free account; free exports are 1080p with a small watermark, and paid plans remove it.

**Can I add my own logo to an intro template?**

Yes. Upload a PNG or SVG as an image, place it on its own layer and apply an animation preset, or replace the text in the logo-reveal template with your name.

**Which size should I use?**

Use 16:9 intros for YouTube videos and 9:16 hooks for Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Magic Resize converts a design between the two.

**How long should a video intro be?**

Two to five seconds. The templates are built short, and you can trim them further on the timeline.
