Step by step
- Decide on one messageA LinkedIn video works best with one idea: one tip, one result, one product feature or one announcement. Write it as a single sentence before you record.
- Record, or start from a templateRecord your screen and camera with the screen recorder, read a script with the teleprompter, or open one of the LinkedIn video templates and change the text.
- Frame it for the feedClick an empty part of the timeline and choose 4:5 or 1:1 under Format in the right-hand panel. Select the clip, choose Fill and drag the video on the preview so your face or your screen stays in the frame.
- Put the message on screen and add captionsAdd a short headline with the Text tab so the first seconds explain the video. Then add captions: type them for free, or use Auto captions on a paid plan.
- Add your brandSave your logo, colours and font in the brand kit, in the Style tab, and apply them to every text with one click.
- Export and upload the fileClick Export and download the MP4. In LinkedIn, create a post and attach the file as a video. CutLuma does not post to LinkedIn for you.
Which video size works best on LinkedIn
LinkedIn accepts several shapes. On a phone, taller shapes take up more of the screen, so they are easier to notice. Use 1080 pixels on the short side.
LinkedIn’s limits for length and file size change and depend on the type of post, so check its current help pages before you export a long video. Sizes for the other platforms are in the video sizes cheat sheet.
| Shape | Size | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| 4:5 (portrait) | 1080×1350 | Feed posts that should fill most of a phone screen |
| 1:1 (square) | 1080×1080 | Feed posts, text cards and statistics |
| 16:9 (landscape) | 1920×1080 | Webinar recordings, long talks and screen demonstrations viewed on a computer |
Upload the video file, do not paste a link
A video plays in the LinkedIn feed when you upload the file itself. If you paste a link to a video on another site, LinkedIn usually shows a preview card that opens another page, and fewer people watch it. This also applies to a CutLuma share link.
So export an MP4 and attach it to the post as a video. Write the post text in LinkedIn, and put any link in the text or in a comment.
The first seconds and captions
Videos in the feed start without sound, and people decide quickly whether to keep watching. Show the main point as text in the first three seconds: a result, a question or the name of the topic. Do not start with a logo animation.
Caption every spoken line. Keep captions to one or two short lines with high contrast, and place them where they do not cover your face. Auto captions is an AI feature of the paid plans; typing captions as text clips is free. For clear sound from a laptop microphone, select the clip and turn on Enhance voice and Reduce background noise.
Custom marketing videos for a company page
You can create video marketing for a company page without a film crew. These formats are common on LinkedIn, and each can be made in the browser. The marketing video maker page shows how to reuse one project in every format.
- Product demonstration. Record your screen with your camera in a bubble. The recorder zooms in on your clicks and removes silent pauses.
- Statistic or result. One large number with one line of explanation. Start from a stats template.
- Hiring post. The role, the location and one line about the team, in a square card.
- Customer quote. A short quote with the customer’s name and company, in your brand colours.
- Event or webinar announcement. The title, the date, the speaker and how to register.
- Product advert. On a paid plan, the product video maker turns a product page link into a short advert with a hook, benefits and a call to action.
Write the post and reuse the video
The text of the post matters as much as the video. Say who the video is for and what the viewer will learn, in the first two lines. On a paid plan, the publish kit reads what was said in the video and writes a LinkedIn post, titles and hashtags that you can edit.
One recording can serve several platforms. Change the format to 9:16 for Shorts and Reels or to 16:9 for YouTube, drag to reframe, and export again. For a short silent loop, such as a quick product walkthrough, the export dialog can also make an animated GIF. More ideas are on the LinkedIn video editor page.
FAQ
What is the best video size for LinkedIn?
Portrait 4:5 (1080×1350) or square 1:1 (1080×1080) fills more of the feed on phones. Landscape 16:9 (1920×1080) suits long talks and screen demonstrations.
How long should a LinkedIn video be?
As short as the message allows. Many feed videos are under two minutes and state the main point in the first seconds. LinkedIn’s length limits change, so check the current limit before you export a long video.
Is there a free LinkedIn video maker?
Yes. CutLuma’s editor, templates and screen recorder are free with a free account. Free exports are Full HD with a small watermark; paid plans remove it and include AI captions.
Why does my video link not play in the LinkedIn feed?
LinkedIn shows most links as a preview card that opens another page. To make a video play in the feed, upload the MP4 file itself when you create the post.
Do LinkedIn videos need captions?
Yes, in practice. The feed starts videos without sound, so viewers need captions to follow speech. You can type them for free or generate them with AI on a paid plan.
Can I make a marketing video without filming myself?
Yes. Start from a template and change the text, record only your screen, or build a video from photos and text. AI voiceover and text to video are available on the paid plans.
