How to merge videos online

Drop every clip on the timeline, drag them into order so they touch, pick one canvas size and fit or crop each clip to it, add a cross-fade or a title between them if the cuts feel abrupt, and export one MP4.

Step by step

  1. Add all the clipsOpen the merge videos tool and drop every file at once. Each one lands on the timeline in the order you added it.
  2. Put them in orderDrag clips left or right to re-order them. Snapping closes the gaps so the next clip starts the moment the previous one ends.
  3. Trim the joinsCut the dead seconds at the start and end of each clip so the edit keeps moving. Press S at the playhead to split and Delete to remove.
  4. Match the sizesIf the clips have different shapes, pick one canvas (16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for shorts) and use fill to crop, or fit to show the whole picture on a background.
  5. Soften the cutsAdd a cross-fade or dip-to-black transition where two scenes meet, or a short title card between sections.
  6. ExportExport one MP4. Add music across the whole thing first if you want a single soundtrack.

Order and pacing

A merged video is still a video, so think about the order as a story rather than a file list. Open with the clearest or most energetic clip, group related clips together, and end on the one that resolves things. If the clips were filmed at different times, a two-second title between groups ("Day 1", "The result") tells the viewer why the scene changed.

Cut each clip at both ends. Phone clips usually start with a second of adjusting the frame and end with a reach for the stop button; those seconds add up across ten clips. Watch the joins at full speed and nudge them with the arrow keys until each cut lands on a natural pause or action.

Mixed sizes and orientations

Clips from different phones or cameras rarely match. Some are landscape, some portrait, some 4K and some 720p. The timeline accepts them all, but the export has one canvas, so decide where the video will be watched and set the canvas with Resize before you fine-tune anything.

  • Fill: crops each clip to the canvas. Best when the shapes are close and the subject is central.
  • Fit: shows the whole clip with a coloured, gradient or blurred background. Best for mixing portrait phone clips into a 16:9 video.
  • Reframe by hand: drag and scale any clip on the preview so a face or product stays in frame after the crop.
  • Resolution: the lowest-resolution clip sets the quality you will notice. Export at 1080p for a mix of sources.

Transitions and sound

A straight cut is the right transition most of the time, especially between clips of the same scene. Use a cross-fade where time passes, a dip to black between chapters, and nothing fancier unless the content is playful. Keep transitions short, around half a second; longer ones make a video feel slow.

Sound is where merged videos give themselves away. Each clip has its own volume in the inspector, so bring loud clips down and quiet ones up until speech sits at a steady level. A music track across the whole timeline hides the change in room tone between clips; lower it under speech. If one clip has only wind noise, mute it with the mute tool and let the music carry it.

Export and share

Export once, as a single MP4. Free exports are 1080p with a small badge in the corner; paid plans remove the badge and add 60 fps and, on Pro, 4K. Very long merges take longer to render, so leave the tab open until it finishes. The project stays in your library, so you can add a clip, re-order or re-export later without starting over. If the merged video is for several platforms, duplicate the project and change the canvas for each one rather than cropping a finished export. For a photo-and-video mix with music, the slideshow guide covers timing stills to a beat.

FAQ

How do I combine two videos into one for free?

Drop both into the editor, drag the second so it touches the end of the first, and export. The free plan exports 1080p with a small badge.

Can I merge videos of different sizes?

Yes. Pick one canvas and each clip is fitted or cropped to it. Nothing is stretched.

Can I merge MOV, MP4 and WebM files together?

Yes. Any video your browser plays can sit on the same timeline, and the result exports as one MP4.

Is there a limit on the number of clips?

No fixed limit. Long projects take longer to export, so keep an eye on the total length.
